With only a few hours to fish before having to get my guest back by lunchtime for their early flight home, we had to make the best of it. We had a few guest onboard from a Fishing Magazine, and their clients. They had hoped that we would run into a school of Mahi on the trip. I cautioned them that they have been pretty widely scattered, but that on any given day, well you never know.

The sea’s were awesome, with glassy flat waters allowing us to quickly get out deep. We headed for a bottom site to see if any Jacks were holding, and there was little marking and even less biting on the few pass’s we made, except for smaller fish. We criss-crossed the area a few times before deciding to move on. We had been seeing a lot of False Albicore schools on the way out, and more out as far as 20 miles. The ‘Flippers’ were also aout thick. Along with these marine mammals were a lot of Turtles and Mola Mola. The Jellyfish had the Sunfish and Leatherback Turtles in the area, and this was a cool sight to see. My guest were testing out their new Video system, and hopefully got some great underwater shots from this.

With the bottom bite at the first stop off, we decided to head deeper. We saw some birds working a nearby area, and decided to investigate. I was rigging some lines to pull behind as we neared the birds when we saw color at the side of the boat, and it was a scramble from there. Mahi came a visiting, and we invited them to come home with us! We hooked them up one at a time, and kept one in the water until the next was hooked. We got 4 of the 5 we saw, and the 5th was hooked a few times and managed to free itself. Finally it redused to eat.
