Deep Water Swordfish and the Magic 1500 FT

In Florida and most other regions of the world, Swordfish are regularly caught in the 1500 ft range. This depth seems to be the “staple” depth for daytime Swordfish fishing although many Swords are caught in depths to from 900 – 2000 ft, even so, the staple depth of 1500 ft is most common.

At night, Swordfish move to shallower water, seemingly 1000-1100 ft being most notable from Jupiter to Miami and even in the Keys. However, Swordfish are also caught at night in 1500+ and even deeper water as well. A strange beast they are, but continue to captivate offshore fishermen even more today than ten years ago. In short, the fish can be almost anywhere in the Gulfstream at night which is all dependent upon the location of bait and squid at that time.
